About the Game
Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir puts you in the shoes of a protagonist who discovers a mysterious diary known as the Purple Diary. This diary is tied to a malevolent spirit, and by using the 3DS camera, you must uncover the story behind it. The game uses the bundled AR Book to create illusions—ghosts and supernatural events appear to interact with the real world through the camera view. You'll solve puzzles, explore environments, and confront eerie apparitions. The game is played from a first-person perspective, with the 3DS held up to scan pages and trigger events. It's a short but memorable experience, clocking in at around 4-5 hours, and it's particularly notable for its creative use of the hardware.
For fans of Tecmo Koei's other horror works, like the Fatal Frame series, Spirit Camera shares some DNA but offers a more experimental approach. If you enjoy AR games or are curious about the 3DS's capabilities, this title is a fascinating piece of history. And if you're into retro-style action, you might also like Arcade Archives: Ninja Spirit Switch NSP (eShop), which brings classic arcade thrills to a modern platform.
